It is a busy traffic intersection and an important public square. It was destroyed during World War II and was left derelict for years whilst the Berlin Wall passed through it, but after the fall of the Berlin Wall it has quickly been reconstructed.

I went to university in Berlin and the thesis I had to complete was on Potsdamer Platz and it's different eras. It is the huge new shopping district in Berlin and the aim was to banish the ghosts of Berlin's past. It really has the "wow" factor when it comes to the architecture and the Sony Centre alone will leave you gobsmacked! Moving on to the most important thing "the shopping", the shopping here is great the mall has everything you need and there is a great cinema there as well that plays films in English(came in very handy when I lived there!). I know this area inside out and I love it so I can highly recommend it for the architecture, shopping and history!close
