One of the most recognisable symbols of Germany, the Bradenburger Tor was one of the few structures to have survived the Allies bombings of Berlin and has remained relatively unchanged since its contructionin the 18th century.

Berlin's most instantly recognisable landmark is one of the world's most beautiful gates. How it wasn't blown up in either World War though is beyond me!

This gate was built during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm II as a symbol of peace. However, the gate became a symbol of East-West division and as a locked door in the Berlin Wall.
