Belfast, home of the Titanic, is the capital of Northern Ireland and the second largest city on the island of Ireland. After 30 years of political strife a sense of optimism is pervading the streets, and Belfast is fast emerging as one of Europe’s top city break destinations. Take a black taxi tour up the Shankill and the Falls Road, the respective Protestant and Catholic neighbourhoods and the focal points for much of the violence that plagued the city and her resolute inhabitants. All delivered with a large helping of Belfast humour of course! When night comes, enjoy a range of cuisine from simple, hearty pub grub to Michelin starred excellence. Round the night off with a drink in one of the many pubs and clubs, focused in and around the Cathedral quarter and the city’s impressive Odyssey complex.

The people are great and if you visit her, try and meet some Irish people as they will show you the best 'craic' (FUN!) Great pubs to go to are Kelly's, Maddens and the Spaniard - with some great Irish music and yummy food. You could spend a week here if you look outside the box. Whites Tavern is tucked away near Dunnes as well. Go on a Paddywagon tour to Giant's Causeway, Rope bridge and Derry, then one to Bushmills Whiskey Dist. Limelight has Comedy night, go to the Opera house, and take a Black Cab tour which gives you a great impartial political tour of the Shankill and Falls Road, Divis flats, murals , peace wall, etc etc. It opens your eyes and makes you realise that Belfast is still divided in a huge way. Zoo is OK, Belfast Castle is good as well. It's been the biggest culture shock moving to Belfast out of my 2 years away from Australia, but the most enjoyable, welcoming city and people of all.close

We booked into The Belfast International youth Hostel which we were overly impressed with. During our stay we ate out everyday and found the food delicious and service brilliant as well as being amazing value for money with some establishments doing offers such as free drink with meals and free fruit with kids meals etc. We didnt attend any pubs/niteclubs as we had our young children with us but at night the area we stayed in looked pretty lively. The shopping Centres have shops to suit all tastes as well as lots of different styles of cafes and fastfood restaurants. The sights were excellent and a must for any titanic fans especially at that time of year. The weather that weekend was wonderful, fri sat and sun were all beautiful bright sunny days, perfect for chilling out on the grass. Eating out and drinking is considerably cheaper than Dublin and the events we attended were also brilliant value for money and many of them were free. I'd really recommend the titanic lagan boat tour with friendly and informative guides. The Belfast Welcome Centre has brilliant staff who will help with any query. One small drawback was public transport, there never seemed to be a taxi when you need one and loads when you dont but its the same everywhere I suppose. Overall my family and myself really enjoyed our trip and hope to return again next year.close

Only about ten years after major bombing and only a few years after strangers could roam certain neighborhoods without getting one upside the head, it's just now starting the slow climb toward reclamation. Much construction points to a turn-around toward tourist dollar hopes, but as of now it lacks charm, although it has character and history covered.close

This gourmet sandwich cafe has queues out the door come lunchtime, which is a testament to the quality of its fare. They do the best sandwiches , wraps and rolls in the city and they're so deep filled each one comes with a knife and fork.

Went to the outlet on the Lisburn Road, though I believe they have others in the city. Went in the middle of lunch time and couldn’t get a seat and had to wait 25 minutes to be served, though this is normal as it's well known in the area. They have a massive menu, all written on a chalk board which can be quite confusing! But the sandwiches are huge and...
