Avignon is nice enough for a few days but no more. It's a small town with not a lot of tourist attractions but its good for travelling around the surrounding area. The most interesting thing is the Pope's Palace which is pretty cool. You could spend a day or 2 wandering around it.
Good for a weekend visit, but would be low on my list of places to go. |

A very pretty city with a most interesting history. Seems to be starting to get its act together as far as tourist information goes. |

Avignon is one of my favorite cities but it's hard to find a decent place to stay on a tight budget! |

This is a cute little town with a lot of history, but we were very surprised by how expensive most restaurants more. The cost for an average dinner was near 40 euros/person without alcohol and was generally the same or less quality than Paris. The city also has a surprising gay population. There are a limited number of late-evening bars but are filled with people. Overall a nice place to visit for a day but wouldn't recommend staying longer. |

Avignon is a small and picturesque town. It doesn\'t have much to see and there aren\'t that many bars. But the town itself is nice and the views accross the countryside from high vantage points are great. I spent 3 nights here which was a night too long. I would recommend 2 nights giving you a full day to explore the town, in which you will be able to see everything it has to offer. |

While at times Avignon can be expensive, it\'s entirely worth the money. The town is small enough that you get the southern France feel but large enough that you also get a city feel. Definitely stop off at the Office of Tourism: they\'ll give you a pass that gets you into all the museums/major attractions at half price after the first one! It definitely encouraged us to stretch our cultural legs while not making us stretch our wallets. There\'s just something about Avignon that makes you fall in love with it the moment you set foot there.... |

Avignon is well worth a look if you\'re in and about the south of France. Whilst it doesn\'t have an enormous spread of interesting places to visit, its a pleasant setting, and the Palace de Papes definitely rewards time spent there! |
