The town is small enough that you get the southern France feel but large enough that you also get a city feel. Definitely stop off at the Office of Tourism: they\'ll give you a pass that gets you into all the museums/major attractions at half price after the first one! It definitely encouraged us to stretch our cultural legs while not making us stretch our wallets. There\'s just something about Avignon that makes you fall in love with it the moment you set foot there....close

I would recommend 2 nights giving you a full day to explore the town, in which you will be able to see everything it has to offer.close

There are a limited number of late-evening bars but are filled with people. Overall a nice place to visit for a day but wouldn't recommend staying longer.close

Hotel Danieli 82%
More of a budget hotel than a hostel, this was still a very pleasant place to stay.

Regina Hotel 78%
A used condom (and a loooong time ago at that) found on the window border and INCREDIBLE amounts of dust on the chandeliers right over our pillows. Very expensive for someone who considers cleanliness as the most important factor of a hotel room. Would really not recommend it.

1We were on the very top floor with a room that wasnt as good as the others, no shower had to have bath instead. Not a social place, and not much to do in avignon either.

Le Palais des Papes100%
A beautiful cream-coloured castle in remarkable condition, the guided tour is essential when making your way around as the signage alone is inadequate. An interesting place, but the successive histories of the range of papal occupants becomes confusing and uninteresting after a point, but it is really stunning. Unfortunately you can’t take any photos inside...
