Rivalling Sydney as Australia's number one city, Melbourne is famously the country's most European city. Capital of Victoria, here you will find some of Australia's coolest bars, restaurants and cafés. While it doesn't have the harbour or beaches of its eastern counterpart, it does have some of the country's trendiest neighbourhoods. It is also the home of Aussie Rules Football which is a massive part of Victorian life. This is a city that's just as pleasant to visit for three days as it is to live in for three months.

To save money, stay in hostels with self-catering facilities and cook for youself, eating out and drinking has become very expensive here.close

Whether thats a good thing or not, I don\'t know. Sydney is the beautiful sister that everyone likes and always has fun with. Melbourne is like the ugly sister, with a nicer personality. Melbourne has a better vibe, is easy to get around and has good food and drinking outlets in and around the city. It has the slightly Bohemian feel of Budapest in the 1980\'s. Only the Yarra isn\'t nearly as beautiful as other rivers in large cities (in fact I would place it closer to the very bottom of the pile). One thing i definitely did like about Melbourne was the fact they oppostie Crown Casino was a place called Batman Park. Anywhere that\'s neaming parks after Batman is surely on the right path... close

It has a very European feel! The way the city is laid out is great and very easy to get around on either the trams or walking. I really enjoyed my holiday in Melbourne, the night life and shopping was great! I was lucky to be there when the comedy festival was on so I got to enjoy different comedians in Federation Square for free!! But they are always doing different festivals so it doesn’t matter what time of year you go there is always something on. I would definitely recommend the Great Ocean Road tour; it is a long day but definitely worth it as the views is fantastic! I also went on the Neighbours tour and Neighbours night at the Elephant and the wheelbarrow, both were a laugh!close

So much to do here whether its going to an AFL game (essential and Melbourne really is the home of AFL) or a trip down the strand in St Kilda or a boat ride over to Williamstown it really is a great city.

Excellent nightlife as well, especially since the revamp of Federation Square. Also if you fancy taking in 4 seasons in one day, this is definitely the place to be!!!close

The location is great, unfortunately the cleanliness & ratio of rooms to bathrooms and toilets leave a lot to be desired. I cannot believe smoking is allowed inside and that reception allow loud distruptive noise after prespecified point in time -whatever that may be, for example 12.30am. A nice touch was the easter eggs left at the room doors for easter sunday.close

  1. Kingsgate Hotel 60%

This is a great place to stay if you’re on a budget holiday!! It’s a lovely cosy hotel, the rooms are grand and it’s in a great location, only 10 min walk to all the main shopping areas. Their only downfall is the staff who are not the friendliest!!

I suppose this place could be classified as a bar also, but I ate here for one reason - it's cheap. For $10 you get a decent pizza and a glass of wine or a beer. Your choice. Now I've two reasons to tell other people about it - it's cheap and pizzas are very tasty. Check it out.
