Athens is a crazy city. Its easy to get around but the traffic is crazy, I think its one of the most polluetd cities in the world, up there with mexico and Delhi, and the traffic never stops. Must dos are the Parthenon high up in the Athens hills but near enough to the city to walk to. Its a bit class being able to go to the first stadium for the first ever Olympics also. |

I love it. The people are warm and friendly. The food is great. The sea is unbelievably beautiful. The sights can be very memorable. The history is so wonderful, it is really the history of us all. The nightlife is great there! People are every friendly. |

There is a lot more to Athens than the Arropilis. Aincent culture meets modern city life here with spectacular results.
Without doubt Athens has it's faults. Thieves, traffic and pollution being to the forefront but the reality is no city is without it's problems so keep an open mind.
For me Athens was all about the nightlife. The greeks are good fun, the pubs are laid back. grab a bottle of ouzo and start dancing, nobody will bat an eyelid. They enjoy a good laugh.
Another highlight for me, being a self confessed football fanatic is the AEK Athens stadium. It is breathtaking but unfortounately I did'nt get to see a game.
The reality for most tourists in Athens however is to see what remains of the aincent Greek civilisation and this indeed is fascinating. Perhaps in years to come when I develop more of an appreciation for history i will appreciate this aspect of Athens as much as it should be. Dont get me wrong, i involved and educated myself but I experienced all aspects of this wonderful city and i was not dissappointed. |

Athens is a great city! The people are very friendly and there is so much to do. Of course you must visit the Acropolis and then walk down to the Plaka, which is the area right below. There are many cafes, bars, shops and places to eat and you have a great view of the Parthenon! The night life is great and you can pretty much stay out all night long... places don't really close till early morning. At least this is true for the summer months...never been in the winter. Drinks are a little onthe pricy side depending on where you go. On average you will spend 6-10 Euro. Be sure to take the Metro system. It is clean and very easy to use... it totally beats the city traffic and taking cabs. Also be sure to take a few days and visit some of the Aegean Islands. Ships leave from Pireuas daily and you can get there via the old subway from Athens. |

Return visit after many years, with my husband - both of us were there in the 70's and wanted to return - cold, dirty, crowded - but my husband enjoyed visiting his old haunts. Go to Crete (Chania) or the islands! |

Athens has some great things to do and see that are one of a kind. The food is awesome, and the people are friendly. The main drawback is that after a few days, and exhausting the main sites things seem to run a bit dry for activities. But its a great town. |

As one of the bırthplaces of democracy and of logıc, Athens ıs a must see. And, although there ıs a cost to all of these, that only makes them more valuable. Thınk about thıs as you make your pılgrımage to the Acropolıs and walk ın the footsteps of Socrates, Plato and Arıstotle. (Or. ıf you fınd no value ın logıcal thought or freedom, you can just go shoppıng.) |

Athens is a great city to see history books come alive! The metro system is great, and the access to ferries to visit the Greek islands is fantastic! Lots of sites to see, but their proximity to one another makes Athens easy to navigate in 2-3 days. Try exploring other parts of Greece and taking daytrips else where! |

Athens is such a fgreat place to visit... so many ancient sites and monuments. You have a real sense of history here. |

Athens is a really chill and relaxing city. There is enough to see but not too much that you have to rush around to fit it all in in one weekend. The weather is great! The city is small enough that you can walk everywhere and you can also do day trips to islands (Hydra or Aegina) pretty easily! Also, things in Athens are relatively inexpensive compared to Western European prices... you will definitely be able to stay well with in your budget here. A MUST DO! |

I think we stayed in the sex district but it seemed ok. There was lots of stuff to see and most people spoke english. All the street signs and menus were also in english. Overall, it was a great trip and I wish we had more time to explore. |

Athens is not the cleanest or prettiest city in the world, but there is a lot of culture and history, and it is a fairly cheap place to visit. The food is great and the acropolis is amazing, def worth the visit and I will be back. |
The city itself is not that pleasant, but the archaeological sites make up for it. The people of Greece are probably the nicest in all of Europe. |
athens is full of history but very touristy, it depends what you want and what you expect. see the acropolis and hang out in plaka at night. take a ferry to one of the islands, its worth it. |

We only were around the hotel for sleeping and breakfast, but I can say that the desk staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly at any hour of the day or night!!! Would def recommend this hotel...even though it's 20 minutes by metro from downtown Athens! |

Athens was cold and dirty (mid april). Not much to do other than right in the city. Could have one full day there and be happy. |

I loved Athens. The people are friendly and welcoming to backpackers and tourists. You do not need longer 2 days to see everything. |

amazing!! will come back for sure |

I was in Athens in May and it was already very hot ( 30 degrees!) ; I liked it but wouldn't go there between June and August. I only spent one day in the city and my favorit area is Plaka, although very touristic; you can still find nice restaurants and bars and scroll around the shops ( most of the streets are pedestrian) and it's just a few steps from the Acropolis. |

There isn\'t much to see in Athens. Spend a day there then get out to the islands which are awesome. |

Athens is a nice and cultural city but maybe a bit expensive thanks to the euro and perhaps too much touristic. Is not worth to be there for more than three days unless you visit every museum which is so tired, but free if you are an EU student. It\'s better to take a ship and go to the islands, but it is not cheap! Another thing: interrail ticket is not useful in greece!! |

Sure you are getting a great value for this hostel but i felt like it was not worth it. Firstly, I arrived late, I finally found the hostel at 2 am, when three taxi drivers refused to drive us there so we had to walk there. We were greeted with prostitutes on the corner and drug addicts on the street. If this is your type of thing, that\'s fine but I was scared out of my mind at 2am, not to mention I saw a accident happen-a man hit a pedestrian. The does NOT look like the pictures at all. I had a private 6 bedroom and that was fine but it was dirty, there were two black outs in one day, it is freezing in the rooms with no heat, not to mention the loud bar downstairs with very, very drunk people being loud. The bar was full of an older crowd, me being 22, i was a bit disappointed. ma, va bene--you get what you pay for. |

I will go back.... did not have enough time to truly explore the city while trying to balance the nightlife into the picture. |

The city is really dirty. The history is amazing but the streets are not picked up well and it smells often |

I loved Athens, you can do all the main sights, more or less in one day. Not counting the museums which we unfortunately didnt see. We did the akoropli and walked around the city and almost all the sights, as well as went to a lot of the beaches around athens, just by taking the tram which runs right along the coast. The next day we saw the temple of zeus, olympic stadium, and parliament building, all before 10am. But weren\'t rushed at all. It is a lively city with a good night life. Here, you won\'t feel as if you are running around all the sites being a typical tourist and feeling like you didn\'t really get to take your time. It is very laid back and free on sundays, or with a student ID card. Its great, if you have more than a couple days I would suggest seeing if you can\'t take a trip outside of the city somewhere. |

Crummy showers, hot water is rare.
Eat out or real early as there is only one pit on which to cook.
Lots of asylum seeker families with wailing babies.
Also rent out rooms by the hour! Hmmm!
Computers are very very slow. |

Athens is a very dirty polluted city and the people seem have adopted a fitting attitude. Most the greeks we met in athens were rude, unhelpful, money grubers. The hisotrical sights were great but the modern day culture is stressful and chaotic at best. (this is not true for all areas of greece though!) |

Watch out on the hills behind the acropolis (I forget the name of it, but not the one with the church, it was the other one). I got severely harrassed by a man up there (he pushed me into the bushes and was trying to grab me). Luckily I was helped by a lovely Canadian couple. Really put a bad spin on my whole Greek holiday... but other than Athens everyone was lovely. |

Very nice, had a great time, met great people, lots of party with the son of the owner. |

Acropolis is great, although it\'s under repairing & restoration now. |

I loved athens!!! All the historic sites are fantastic and as my group was 19 years old we got into the Acropolis etc for free. All the people are so friendly and helpful. All the food is delicious and cheap, the weather was beautiful, even in Mid November. Despite its rough exterior i always felt really safe here. Its a fairly walkable city, but the metro is good too. So full of character!! |

Liked it here - don\'t understand how I heard so many bad things about it! |

We tried to do Athens in 1 day, not quite as much time as we wanted to spend there. The city is fantastic to explore because the transportation infrastructure is so updated. However, the food around the tourist areas are a huge rip off. Very hard to find decent local food at local prices. |

Athens was beautiful and the weather was perfect - lotsa brilliant sunshine!! Acropolis and Agora were absolutely lovely, food was good in Athens, clubbing was fun, greek girls are hot and greek music is very cool. I love Athens but there aint that much to do after a few days. Will be good to go island hoppin durin summer! |
Athens doesn\'t need very much of your time but you\'ll be sure to enjoy it for a day or two! The Acropoli is incredible and the food amazing... let\'s not forget the weather! |

Love the old ruins and the effort to restore these national treasures. |

Heard a few bad things about Athens to be honest, but I really liked it. Lots to see (obviously), has some cool neighbourhoods and lots of good restaurants and bars. Would definitely return. |
Staff were SO helpful I don\'t know how would have managed without them. Good rooms, and CLEAN which was great after spending a night last year in a Plaka hostel which nearly put me off Athens. This was a great place to get around though as central for underground, and LOVE the coffee Rita! |
Only thing to see there is the Acropolis but that in itself is amazing! That is about it though...
Hard to find the hostel I stayed at there plus it was 40 degrees C!! You can take a taxi if you want, but you never know how much that will cost. |

Relatively cheap for Europe. Tons of amazing sites sprinkled with bits of the modern local culture. Not much in the way of shopping besides souvenirs. It\'s easy to get around, just walk. Nothing is too far. There are lots of cute, quirky traditional greek restaurants to check out, and the weather (even in January) was amazing. Sunny, 65, blue skies. |

Amazing, the staff was really helpful and frienldy. They have all the information to make your stay comfortable and easy. We arrived very late and left very early no problem. Would definitely return. |
The place was alright but the area it is in is a bit scary especially if you arrive at night plus the area is a bit quiet. However, it is very near to the metro station so there\'s no problem getting around Athens. |

Smog covers much of the city so when you visit the Amazing views from the Acropolis, there is a sizable amount of Haze all over the city. The public metros are convienent but beware of pick pockets. There are lots of old rocks to see and some of the temples are quite amazing when you are standing right next to them. |
