For those who haven't been there before, it's hard not to envisage images of ancient sites and temples when thinking of Athens. But since a certain sporting event was held in the Greek capital in 2004, things have changed. This is a modern city. Cool, affordable restaurants abound, as do trendy bars that are buzzing at weekends. All this is in a city which is overlooked by one of Western Europe's most important archaeological sites and biggest attractions.

Not counting the museums which we unfortunately didnt see. We did the akoropli and walked around the city and almost all the sights, as well as went to a lot of the beaches around athens, just by taking the tram which runs right along the coast. The next day we saw the temple of zeus, olympic stadium, and parliament building, all before 10am. But weren\'t rushed at all. It is a lively city with a good night life. Here, you won\'t feel as if you are running around all the sites being a typical tourist and feeling like you didn\'t really get to take your time. It is very laid back and free on sundays, or with a student ID card. Its great, if you have more than a couple days I would suggest seeing if you can\'t take a trip outside of the city somewhere. close

Firstly, I arrived late, I finally found the hostel at 2 am, when three taxi drivers refused to drive us there so we had to walk there. We were greeted with prostitutes on the corner and drug addicts on the street. If this is your type of thing, that\'s fine but I was scared out of my mind at 2am, not to mention I saw a accident happen-a man hit a pedestrian. The does NOT look like the pictures at all. I had a private 6 bedroom and that was fine but it was dirty, there were two black outs in one day, it is freezing in the rooms with no heat, not to mention the loud bar downstairs with very, very drunk people being loud. The bar was full of an older crowd, me being 22, i was a bit disappointed. ma, va bene--you get what you pay for. close

I was unable to stay at the Parthenon Hotel due to the death of my father. He died the day we were to leave for Greece, so we never got on the plane to make the trip. I contacted the hotel and cancelled through them, so I hope that this is adequate. They suggested I contact your agency and...

There was 2 mistakes upon my arrival to the hotel. The website Hostelworld said I would pay the remaining amount to the hotel directly. When I got here, the reception man said that I had paid already for my stay online and that I didn't have to pay him anything. Second mistake was that I...

Excellant location . Felt the hotel needed a bit of a refurbish or maybe just a re-decoration very drab decor. But we did enjoy our stay and would recommend the hotel to friends.

Great location but our room had only one window which wasn't much use as it looked out on a whole bunch of airconditioning units. If you stuck your head out and looked up you could see some sky! Not too bad though as when your in Athens there is lots to see so you don't need to spend much time...
