If you are on a budget in Amsterdam and you are looking for something quick and tasty, this Asian restaurant is excellent. The menu is varied so will suit all tastes.

Even though it's in a touristy-as-hell location, you can still get decent Dutch fare in this restaurant. A lot of mains aren't more than €12.

This is a chain of deli/sandwich shops in Amsterdam. Good for lunch on the go. There's one at Dam Square which is convenient.

This place is smack bang in the middle of Vondelpark. It's a particularly good in the summer, and a great place to people watch.

It's been a long time since I've been to this restaurant (mainly because I don't like Amsterdam so tend not to go there much) but I've recommended it to people over the years and they come back raving about it, so I feel safe recommending it still. It is undoubtedly one of the best Indonesian restaurants in the Netherlands, never mind Amsterdam. The rijst-tafel speciality is excellent but be warned - the dishes go up in stages from the very mild to the tongue-meltingly hot - not for everyone! I have seen bad reviews of this place - mostly because of bad service, but I've never had a problem here.

I really do not understand this recommendation. The food was not bad but definitely not great either. Also, it is not a restaurant but a takeaway with a blaring tv. If you have a chance, try the Bolhoed (nearby on Prinsengracht), for some proper food.

I love this place, when I was the first time i hadn't heard anything about it, but I finished my noodles in few minutes and with a "happy face"

Haarlemmerstraat is a great street with small shops and cafes. Harlem Drinks & Soul Food has wooden tables a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Service was really personal and attentive. I had delicious soup and a large piece of chocolate cake, they also have sandwiches and nachos type dishes. Good break between the cool shops in the area.

Having heard about the London equivalent (and never experiencing it for myself) I was dying to try this branch in Amsterdam. We took a taxi out from the centre as it was quite far out, it was dark and raining though so was hard to get a feel for the area it was in! The restaurant itself is very impressive, one large room with a small bar where you can wait for your table. There are massive chandeliers scattered throughout the room and the kitchen is in full view of everyone with “fifteen” written in graffiti on coloured corrugated iron above it. The back wall of the restaurant also had this coloured corrugated iron, must have been a theme running! The decoration was a mix of old school with the chandeliers and the linen tablecloths etc and contemporary with the corrugated iron and the plastic casing the chandeliers were in. I don’t know if it is the norm but there was a set menu the night we ate there. There was 4 courses with a choice of your 1st and second course. While the food was delicious I found the service to be terrible. We were seated and literally 2 seconds later our appetizer arrived, which contained meat after me asking to see the vegetarian menu (I’m not a vegetarian but wanted a look!) we then had to wait a further 10-15 mins to actually ask for a wine menu and order wine, which usually would be done before any food arrives! After then we had to wait 45 mins for our next course and then a further half an hour (at least) between the other courses. Food was excellent but I won’t be rushing back as the service (or lack of!) put a bit of a dampner on things.

Really nice restaurant located on Rembrandtplein. It was recommended to us by the hotel and we weren’t disappointed! The atmosphere was great with a guy playing good tunes on the piano! The food was great, the beef dish was like a piece of steak chopped up and cooked to perfection! I would steer clear of the desserts but I suppose Indonesian restaurants aren’t well known for their desserts! If your going and like steak I would definitely opt for one of the beef dishes or if you are a fish lover the seafood curry’s are great too.

Located opposite the fabulous flowermarkets just off Leidseplein this café is one of many to choose from along this strip. While once again the service wasn’t’ the best (as I found in general in Amsterdam) the food was good and the view (we sat at the window seat) was great, just watching the world go by! They mainly serve snack food and they do an all day breakfast but the omelettes and toasted sambos were good!

Great little pub like restaurant with super friendly staff and cheap tasty food. Portions are large. The place is tiny but somehow they fit in a lot of people and that creates a really nice atmosphere. Very reasonable prices too. A good place to hang out.

Good Argentinian steakhouse. Other food options available but the emphasis is on red meat and lots of it. Plenty variety on cuts and prepartion methods. If you like your steak then you'll like this restaurant. Good wine selection as well.
