Alghero City Guide

overall city rating 84%

From its historic, medieval Old Town to its beautiful beaches, Alghero is a popular destination in Sardinia, Italy with a population of just over 42,000 people. The narrow streets and lanes of its old town area are filled with restaurants and bars, and as this is a harbour town fresh seafood is always on the menu. Neptune's Grotto at the foot of the Capo Caccia cliffs can be reaches by a short boat trip from the town and is one of the main attractions in the area. Other sights to check out include the Cathedral of St. Mary. Good for an active holiday too; scuba diving, climbing and mountain biking are some of the activities popular here.

We loved Alghero. We went there out of peak season and there did not seem to be many tourists there and we loved it. There are heaps to see and do around Alghero and it\'s a great place to base yourself for further travels around the rest of Sardinia.
