Agra though is no dreamland as the city itself is smelly with open sewerages and merky green water holes and I'd not seen as much litter in 6 weeks of travelling in India as what I saw in Agra. Laden with touts and pushy sales people it's best to have your wits about you!close

Agra.. well.. the Taj Mahal is breathtaking so you really have to go.. but I would recommend spending as little time in Agra as possible.. The Agra Fort was quite impressive too.. but aside from that there is little to do.. Its pretty polluted and smelly and there are heaps of touts around too.....more Agra.. well.. the Taj Mahal is breathtaking so you really have to go.. but I would recommend spending as little time in Agra as possible.. A day trip from Dehli is probably the best way to go.close

The Orchha Resort 93%
Location, location, location! When we were taken to our room we were surprised to find an exotic air-conditioned tent with full amenitites overlooking the picturesque cenotaphs on the banks of the Betwa. The staff in the restaurant, at the front counter, and the doorman stood out with...

Col. Lamba Indian Home Stay 88%
This home is a welcome relief and change from others in India. So clean and welcoming, you are made to feel you are staying as a guest in a home rather than a hotel. The evening meal tasted fantastic, fresh, genuinely authentic home made Indian food at its best. Such a relief after Delhi to be at...

3Col. Lamba is a very nice person and we enjoyed our short stay in his place! He is kind of frightening when you meet him for the first time (he is very much a colonel in the behaviour!!!) but when you talk to him he finally revelas a very sweet heart (look at the pictures of his grandchildren at...

Gardenvilla Homestay 83%
Definitely the best place to stay we've found till now in all India. The homestay is driven by a charming family, they will help you with anything you want. VERY clean and tidy, I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Agra.

1Although a fair way out of town this villa was very accommodating and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and the AC was great!

4Located in a very boring area. Far (10km) from Taj Mahal and the Fort. But good and friendly staff, clean rooms in very newly fixed building

Grand Hotel - Agra 71%
My stay at Grand Hotel was ok but not very inspring. Staff were reluctant to give receipts for our payments. The atmosphere was quite dead actually.

1No hot water but got 50% off. Large room but bare. Bearing in mind internet price of 4* hotels start at £25, £20 for this was steep.

Shanti Lodge Restaurant80%
This restaurant is located on the roof of the Shanti Lodge hotel. The food is average, and the service is extremely slow, however the good thing about this restaurant is the view. It has the best view of the Taj Mahal I have seen, and it looks gorgeous at nighttime. Worth going just for the view but dont expect much in terms of the standard of food.

The Taj Mahal100%
The Taj Mahal is possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. As you travel through the dirty and smelly city of Agra its hard to believe that this monumnet of love is located here. The buildings hue changes as the day passes and to say it takes your breatn away is an understatement.Just go and see it.

Taj Mahal, Agra90%
Absolutely beautful. Inside the grounds of the Taj Mahal is stunning and so well kept. Its a pity about the city outside, Agra, one of the dirtiest places i was in in India.
